Perfect World’s Q3 results down, American operations blamed for the drop.

As reported by Jef Reahard, Massively Perfect World’s third quarter profits fell, according to a financial results document published yesterday by the free-to-play giant. CEO Robert Xiao blamed PW’s American operations for the drop, though he said the firm remains “confident in the long-term prospects of our US subsidiary given its strong R&D and operational capabilities as well as [its] promising pipeline.” Perfect World declined to comment on the performance … Continue reading Perfect World’s Q3 results down, American operations blamed for the drop.

“Infamous” Infographic Revisited – Priority One Podcast with Cryptic’s Jesse Heinig

In this weeks podcast from Priority One, Elijah has an eye-opening and even-handed discussion with STO Game Designer Jesse Heinig about the R&D system – specifically the costs associated with R&D and it’s impact on the casual gamer. “We have been evaluating both the difficulty and the price of getting those (rare and very rare) materials, and we expect the costs both in terms of … Continue reading “Infamous” Infographic Revisited – Priority One Podcast with Cryptic’s Jesse Heinig

R&D Cost Reductions Inbound.

At noon today Phil ‘gorngonzolla’ Zeleski announced some fairly decent changes to the R&D system impacting the costs for rare and very rare components. The short term impact is a net negative for anything crafted prior to the code change, but long term it makes for lower costs and it eases the demand for hard-to-get materials (rubidium for example). Changes should be implemented on Tribble … Continue reading R&D Cost Reductions Inbound.

Increased Communication from Cryptic – Progress Report on Rewards

Props to Charles Gray who has posted another update a short time ago.  The added level of communication is greatly appreciated. These changes take time.  Cryptic can’t rely on data from Tribble, they need usage data from Holodeck.  In simple English – the metrics are driving the changes. My only thought – the title refers to PVE difficulty changes ( and PVE Queue Difficulty), and there … Continue reading Increased Communication from Cryptic – Progress Report on Rewards

Cryptic’s XP post reads like it was written by Romulans.

Four weeks into the mess of DR, and we’re finally getting feedback regarding the state of XP progression in the game.  Charles Gray, Lead Content Designer posted the update at noon today. The post is at its best confusing, and at it’s worse a crafted attempt at smoke and mirrors.  On the one hand they’re increasing the XP rewarded, but the amount of XP needed … Continue reading Cryptic’s XP post reads like it was written by Romulans.

“What we have here is a failure to communicate…”

Cryptic is in dire need of some social media assistance, or at a bare minimum a marketing team that understands it’s own products. A few hours ago images were released of a new class of Starship – the Pathfinder Class. It’s a damn fine-looking ship.  I actually want one without even knowing what it’s all about.  It’s that good looking. The combination Twitter and Facebook … Continue reading “What we have here is a failure to communicate…”

Infographic: Costs of Upgrading in Delta Rising

Update: we’ve added a disclaimer regarding EC costs as Cryptic has lowered the R&D material requirements for crafting.  The number of upgrades and the dilithium costs remain unchanged.  A revised graphic is underway. The following infographic is designed as an overview of the costs associated with Delta Rising.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the initial survey that enabled the creation of this graphic. Even on Facebook, Star Trek Online Can’t Escape the problems they’re having

It’s hard to escape that the player base is unhappy with the current changes with Star Trek Online.  Disconnections,  server inconsistencies, loadout issues, and the general lack of players in the queues – not to mention the astronomical costs for updating your toons.
