Secondary Deflectors Inbound

A lunchtime post from Grogonzolla has confirmed something we’ve been toying with on Tribble – all ships that possess both Sensor Analysis and Subsystem Targeting will now have a secondary deflector.  If your ship is already in use, you will not get a free deflector automatically, but there are options in game to craft or get them from drops. Secondary Deflectors will not be part … Continue reading Secondary Deflectors Inbound

Captain Gecko’s Letter on Reddit.

Four days ago, Al Rivera responded to many of the fans and critics regarding Star Trek Online in a personal post on Reddit.  You can visit the original post here. We chose not to respond.  His comments speak volumes.  His post was personal, heartfelt and puts into perspective the difficulties and complexities of managing a great IP like Star Trek Online. Here is his post … Continue reading Captain Gecko’s Letter on Reddit.

Bridge Officers as Captains? (Updated)

In the previous post we wildly speculated that the incoming Command Specializations may have another use. Looking at the powers below, its easy to see using them with my away team or as part of a group of like minded players in ground scenarios.  Some of the space powers don’t make sense if it’s just for one ship, or if its for a group of … Continue reading Bridge Officers as Captains? Confirmed: Command Hybrid Seating on New Starships – BUT is this the start of something else?

Given everything so far on Tribble it was safe to assume a new Command Specialization hybrid seating would be available soon.  This was confirmed officially today with the most recent blog post from Jeremy Randall. In addition to the new Command Specialization, we also learned that any bridge officer can be retrained to use these specialization abilities, although only one Specialization can be active at … Continue reading Confirmed: Command Hybrid Seating on New Starships – BUT is this the start of something else?

Tribble Dump hints at new Hybrid ‘Command’ Specialists, 2ndry Deflectors and more

Tribbles’ late afternoon update this past Friday contained a number of expected and unexpected updates to Star Trek Online. The revamp of the BOFF training system looks surprisingly well thought out and useful.  Major changes include the UI and iconography (reported here earlier), and a new system to train bridge officers.  The general feed back has been overwhelmingly positive. Secondary Deflectors – the much talked … Continue reading Tribble Dump hints at new Hybrid ‘Command’ Specialists, 2ndry Deflectors and more

Incoming Bridge Officer Icon Updates for the 5th Anniversary

Kudos to Thomas “ThomastheCrypticCat” Marrone and the advance warning that major changes to the Bridge Officer abilities are coming during the 5th Anniversary Event. Changing icons at any time can be a difficult and frustrating process for developers.  Add to that process a fan-base which admittedly doesn’t take change very well, and can be very vocal that any change is a bad one. While we do … Continue reading Incoming Bridge Officer Icon Updates for the 5th Anniversary

New R&D School and New BOFF Training Mechanism for STO

At first read, the new BOFF system for training actually sounds like an improvement.  Yes there will be a small dilithium cost to create the training manuals, but the ability to resell these manuals on the exchange simplifies an already bugged system. If you’ve purchased an Intel ship during the recent expansion, you were quickly dissapointed when you tried to have other captains train them.  … Continue reading New R&D School and New BOFF Training Mechanism for STO
